The Boy Scouts are a very admirable organization in a number of ways. They teach respect for nature and leadership skills. So why does such a fine organization promote exclusion? Anyone who is thinking of enrolling their child or getting involved should be aware that the Boy Scouts organization has a public policy of discrimination against Gay and Lesbian people, whether they be scout leaders or scouts. Character building? Participating citizenship? Where does bigotry and discrimination fit within these goals? How does this set an example of character for our children? Until they change this offensive policy, please BOYcott BOYsouts.

P.S. The Girl Scouts is inclusive and does not discriminate against anyone.

jeastburn, I think your opinion is not entirely correct:

Readers, keep in mind the BSA is a PRIVATE organization entitled to its own beliefs, just as jeastburn has, and the rest of us. BSA’s policies have been challenged in court and do not break any discriminatory laws.
If the BSA were EXACTLY as jestburn states, I personally would not have my son involved either. But they are not. Thus I feel this is still an excellent organization that can bring the responsibility, character, and maturity that is missing in some of today’s youth.

Jeastburn, you are entitled to your beliefs and if you feel they are in conflict, you have your right to not get involved. Just please do not persuade other parents to avoid an organization that as you state in your opening comments, “…an admirable organization in many ways.” Thanks. :-)

Boy Scouts of America is an awesome organization. My two nephews are Eagles.
Don’t let anybody tell you they are bigoted or discriminatory. They are NOT about sex or sexual orientation. That’s not what children need to be focused on. They surely don’t deserve the bad press a few adults with an agenda have forced on them.
