Gaming win up in Nevada; stagnant on South Shore

Stateline casinos did not continue their winning ways in July. With June seeing a 17 percent spike, July was flat at $30 million in revenue.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board on Sept. 10 released the latest numbers, which showed revenues increased in July by 17 percent compared to July 2011. Nevada casinos brought in just more than $1 billion in July, which compares $860 million a year ago.

The Las Vegas Strip is what made the difference. There revenues were $597 — up nearly 28 percent compared to 2011.

Offer a product needed, wanted, or of value and customers will come.

For example, the spectacular (and reasonably priced) Friday night seafood buffets at Harvey’s, years ago.

B.B King in the old Cabaret Lounge with a 2 drink minimum. That would bring some folks in! Well at least it used to in the early 70’s. Yes Steve that seafood buffet was a good deal as was the Sahara buffet.
But now it’s a completely different age and economy. The casinos here need to try some new things. How about more local discounts on food, lodging and entertainment? Becoming more involved with the community other than offering low paying jobs that helps to make your casinos ever so much more profitable.
So how about it casinos? If it wasn’t for our little town and neighboring communities you would be out of business real fast.
You help us and we help you.Deal?

Harrah’s buffet offers local discounts which does bring me in and of course try my luck. Lakeside Inn dropped their prime rib special and I’d be interested to see how their local support for the restaurant has changed.

Lakeside Inn gets my vote for best casino on So. Shore. There’s a good feel to the place that can’t be matched by any of the big guys down the street. Lakeside has good food and a friendly bunch working there. I’ve been goin’ there for years. I miss the old crew, Bruce, Freddy, and Robin all good bartenders… they were fun to talk with!
Thats where we always take our out of town visitors to when they want to go to a casino.
The other big casinos could learn a thing or two from Mr. Bradford’s Lakeside Inn!

Maybe a loop road would help out the casinos. Just kidding….
