Fair Play wines. Jodar, Latcham, and Fitzpatrick. Delghtful, hearty reds. Picchetti wines, also, right here in Tahoe. Try the Tahoe Red.

Whatever is under $5 from Grocery outlet! (I have a passing amount of wine knowledge, but refuse to pay a larger portion of my meager income!)

When I can afford it a Beringer cabernet or Jordan chardonnay. But mostly it’s the cheap stuff, Barefoot cab or merlot or boxed white wines like like Vella or Franzia. Box wine is crap but it’s better than Red Mountain was back when I was in high school. That stuff wasn’t even really wine , but hey it was only $1.99 a gallon!
    Cheers! Old Long Skiis

Amador County Zins. Costco has a good one right now on their “Kirkland” label, about $10.

Backyard favorites include wines from C.G. DiArie, Auriga, Mt. Aukum, Holly’s Hill, Toogood & Miraflores (same winemaker-Marco Capelli) Windwalker, Montevina and Terre d’Oro, and last, but not least, Scott Harvey and Jeff Runquist – best winemakers in the foothills (Scott moved to Napa but still sources from the foothills, Jeff is in Amador full time now).

Good quality in Bag-in-a-box can ususally be found in the “Black Box” series who put pretty good stuff in an affordable package that can sit on a shelf or in the frig for a while and maintain airtight O2 free integrity.

For pure quality barrel fermented, aged sur lies chardonnay bang-for-the-buck you can’t beat Wente Riva Ranch, which can be found for 15$ retail. Compares very favorably with wines selling at four times the price.
