Regarding parking in the Tahoe Keys Marina, you need to print the whole story. I understand they were still letting people park for free in the lot if they were dining at Fresh Ketch or using the marina. I’m afraid you’ll chase people away by stating they were charging (implied) all people wanting to park in their lot. Also, there are plans to expand the public parking area further into East Cove. Is the city going to try to put meters in the new lot? Or will it be free also? Note: I think a new parking lot will take away from the joy & natural beauty of walking East Cove trail. It encourages more cars and takes away from bike-friendly. Does anyone know how many parking spaces are planned there? I hope if the plan is to leave a WIDE band of natural landscaping between East Cove Trail and the new parking lot.
Here is a story about the proposed additional parking: https://www.laketahoenews.net/2011/01/tahoe-keys-marina-parking-to-be-increased/
In the 2012-13 South Lake Tahoe budget is revenue from paid parking. The plan is to take a neighborhood by neighborhood approach to paid parking. These items will be on future council agendas.
The parking attendant at TK Marina has said it’s free to park for Fresh Ketch patrons.
The point of running this is marina people are making money off parking, which is their right; but those people didn’t want the city to make money off city streets, which is their right. It points to the lack of cooperation in this town and working for the greater good.

Comes across as unfriendly, uninviting, gouging, but it’s privately owned, so they have the right. Just don’t think it sends a warm inviting message, to our bread and butter.
Thanks for the link to your previous article on the planned parking spaces at Cove East. It gives a bigger picture too–that there could be some change made in the river’s course in that area as well, which would also affect the trail? Sounds like more updates might be coming.
Still, I am concerned about adding more parking and taking away more of the natural area. Aren’t we trying to decrease coverage in the sensitive area/marsh?

I believe parking is free for the slip holders and those paying to launch their boats for day use.
