Stateline gaming revenue decline helps pull entire state down
Gaming revenue in Nevada declined 3.1 percent in August compared to the previous year.
Nevada Gaming Control Board released the figures Wednesday morning. Overall, casinos collected $859.2 million from gamblers.
Stateline continued its decline, dropping year-over-year revenue by $22 million, or 19.5 percent.
The two bright spots in the state were Washoe County, where revenues were up 5 percent, and Mesquite, with a gain of 4 percent.

an entire state based on gambling, what do they expect.
48 states now with some form of legalized gaming. Time for Nevada to take advantage and become a front-runner in green energy technologies, and education in those technologies.
They have totally changed how people gamble. The machines are all quiet and centered on how to get your money as soon as possible. I expect to lose, just want to do it slowly. Those like me, who went 1-4 times a year just for entertainment no longer go. We spent far less money, but it added up. Now if feels like an industry that just wants to pull in those addicted.
Stateline changed when they got rid of those cheap motels. It tried to be an upscale ski resort and got rid of the family crowd that used to come up for a couple of days to see the lake while mom/dad spend a little time in the casinos. Stateline is not an easy place for a day trip for gambling, either, because those twisty highways like 50 are hard to drive at night, and with the cheap lodging options gone, people go to Reno instead of Tahoe. Meanwhile the convention center still isn’t together and the ski places aren’t hopping, either, because the lower income skiiers have a hard time affording lodging and lift tickets. And they aren’t there to casually drop some money at the casinos. It’s more than Indian gaming that killed the casinos in Stateline.
