Truckee police keeping eye on 6 registered sex offenders

The Truckee Police Department recently completed a review and contact of registered sex offenders living in town.

People convicted of certain sex offenses are required by California law to register with the law enforcement agency of jurisdiction where they live. There are currently six registered sex offenders living in Truckee.

Each was contacted by officers who verified the registrant’s residence address and verified that the residence was not within 2000 feet of schools or daycare facility within town.

The number of sex offenders living in Truckee varies over time. Offenders are required to register with the law enforcement agency of a community they are moving to as well as the law enforcement agency of the community they are moving from.

Truckee officers do periodic unannounced compliance reviews to ensure complete compliance of offenders with all requirements of the law.

    Compliments to the Truckee PD!
The law in South lake Tahoe regarding residence is “A sex offender is prohibited from residing within 2,000 feet of any public or private schools for children, centers or facilities that provide day care or children’s services, video arcades, public and private playgrounds and play facilities, parks, youth sports facilities, skate parks, public swimming pools and bus stops in the immediate vicinity of parks and schools.”
I’d be interested to hear how many registered offenders are violating ordinance 18-98 and why they are allowed to do so.

Only 6? We have 32 in South Lake Tahoe :(

    Truckee population: 16,180

    South Lake Tahoe population: 21,403

A bit more population, but way more sexual predators.
