Incoming S. Tahoe council to be busy at first meeting

Besides swearing in a new member and then picking a mayor for the next year at the Dec. 11 South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, the five have a full agenda.

Tahoe Transportation District officials are slated to give an update on projects. Separate is a consent agenda item involving funding between the TTD and the city.

This comes right after the California Tahoe Conservancy briefs the council on its strategic plan.

Parking meters are scheduled for a vote.

And it’s possible a subcommittee will be re-established to deal with the Chateau project. That’s the name that was given to the never-built convention center-hotel debacle near the state line.

South Tahoe Refuse officials will be at the meeting seeking a 1.57 percent rate increase to take effect Jan. 1. There will be a public hearing.

Harrison Avenue’s environmental and design will be discussed during a public hearing.

The meeting starts at 9am at Lake Tahoe Airport.

Where’s the public hearing for parking meters. They tried this last February and overwhelmingly the public said no. The council is not doing the will of the voters, but letting the city raise money rather than find ways to be more efficient. I SAY NO TO PAID PARKING.

South Tahoe Ripoff is asking for another increase! A hearing will be held!
Increase to take effect Jan 1st. Will our great leaders have the hearing on December 25th so no one will be present!
The hearing should have been 3 months ago. In house ripoff!

Why doesn’t the city get a leg up on the fiasco called the “loop road” by forming a committee to probe why the good for NV loop road gave us a second “hole in the ground.”
I can’t read the future but I do try to learn from history and the writing is on the wall for all to see if they will open their eyes.

Joe, The city officials will do what they want because they can. The majority of people who live here don’t really care what happens. If they did, there would be 100’s instead of a few people showing up at council meetings speaking their mind or writing letters. Lack of citizen involvement empowers those who make up the council agenda and vote on issues to do what they see as best for the city’s future.

Looking forward to the Harrison Avenue environmental and design discussion. With art and murals, Harrison Avenue can be magnificent!
