Juveniles suspected of vandalizing magnet school

The names of the suspects in the Dec. 14 doughnut-spinning, wall demolition incident at the magnet school in Meyers are not being released because they are younger than 18.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Gartner told Lake Tahoe News his office believes they know who is responsible for the vandalism, but will not make arrests because there are no known witnesses. He added that the names of the offenders — ages and genders were not released — have been forwarded to the probation department.

An El Dorado County Probation Department employee said Greg Sly, who runs the department, is the one to talk to. Sly did not return a call so it is not known what will happen to the accused if anything. It’s also not known how many people may have been involved and why they are on probation to begin with.

    It’s good to have connections.

No witnesses=no crime in a small town. Wouldn’t the evidence be sufficient? Awesome.

Vandalism, even with a vehicle, is a criminal violation, not a traffic matter. How did Highway Patrol get involved? EDSO should be doing the criminal investigation; maybe real investigators would know how to make an arrest.

It is possible that EDSO investigators are not inclined to make an arrest for some reason.

So I guess we can add “driving a car through a school” to the list of things you can easily get away with in the Tahoe Basin. The other things on that list of course being “murder someone in a crowded bar” and “traffic narcotics nationwide.” Take a bow, police force!

Easy with the comparison to murder and drug dealing. First, they are juveniles and juvenile information is NEVER released to the media, the author of this article knows that. Second, the case was refered to the Probation Department which handles juveniles, very normal situation. Let the justice system work, the suspects will be held responsible.
