Timber Cove Lodge gets new name, to be renovated
There is one less Best Western in South Lake Tahoe.
What was the Timber Cove Lodge is no longer affiliated with Best Western, and it has a new name. As of Dec. 1, it is the Beach Retreat & Lodge at Tahoe.
The changes are part of the new ownership. Urbana Holdings based in Georgia acquired the property, which include the Timber Cove Pier, after the trustees of the estate of longtime owner Bob Maloff sold the property after Maloff died in 2011.
The first attempt at rebranding the restaurant site on the pier failed. Bistro on the Pier is gone and in its place is Boathouse Restaurant on the Pier.
What was Mama’s Red Tomato restaurant in the front of the hotel along Highway 50 will be Kitchen 3411. That is expected to open by the end of the year.
In 2013, the 262 rooms and lobby will be remodeled, and meeting space added.
