Negative 12 degrees in South Lake Tahoe sets record

Cold doesn’t even begin to describe the weather in Tahoe.

Bone chilling, icy, record breaking — that’s the kind of cold South Lake Tahoe residents are experiencing today. The 1993 record of minus 7 degrees for Jan. 12 was broken. The new record for Jan. 12 is minus 12 degrees.

Truckee nearly set a record with its minus 14. The record of minus 15 was set in 1963.

The National Weather Service says to expect another record in South Lake Tahoe on Jan. 13. The 2007 record of minus 7 could be eclipsed because the forecast is for a minus 10 in the early hours of Sunday.
