Letter: Commending Barton for excellent care
To the community,
I was awakened the other morning morning with a bad belly pain.
I have been a patient of GI problems most of my life and do not hesitate when problems arrive. I went to the Barton emergency room where I was diagnosed with gallstone problems. A couple of days later I was released.
Two days later I was back and my gallbladder was removed.
I have been treated for GI problems my whole life and I do have the background and experience to judge proper care. We are very lucky to have a hospital where everyone I had contact with gave proper professional care. I will not attempt to identify all the staff I had contact with because it was for most part a blur of time and people.
I know it is hard to provide care of all types of problems.
From a small hospital I must say I was treated well by everyone there. We are very lucky to have the Barton hospital and their staff in our community. As an 80-year-old patient, I am really glad they are part of my community.

I have always had good service at all the facilities but the cost of going to the emergency room is insane. With my insurance it cost $750 out of my pocket and that was for NO tests. I was there an hour. The total bill before insurance was Crazy. Not sure what bled harder my leg or my pocket book. Next time I’m stitching with horsehair. Who can afford this stuff except for low income people on medi cal that appear to get treated for free. Something is wrong here….
I also was treated at Barton Hospital, They saved my life, I came in with a belly ache and was found to have Colon Cancer, I am on Medi cal ,and I feel I am not a low income person, I am disabled, I feel if you have money to pay for your life , so be it, No money in the world can save a life,Does money matter if you live or die ? I would sell everything I have to save mine if it was to save my life,Thank God ,and thank the staff for saving mine ,Barton you are the best ,
I personally found the care to be good, but the price Barton charges is outrageous. I will never return to their system, Carson City is close and they have just as good of care at a fraction of the cost. It’s a no brainer, Barton is just to expensive.
I think Barton Hospital has a good staff and facility, but it is very expensive. It was about 10 years ago when my girl friend cut her hand. The cost for 6 stitches was $1,200. She didn’t have insurance, all of it came out of our pockets.
Been in there several times myself over the years and I’m glad they’re here, just be prepared to pay. Big Time!

I agree, they have good staff, but there prices are 1 1/2- 3X more expensive than Carson City in my experience.
Barton charges such high rates because they can, simple as that. They have a captive audience. Now they are buying up all the independent Dr offices in town to keep us locals in their system. A short 30 mile drive east saves boat loads of money. Boycott Barton and their high rates, fleecing of patients in SLT.
You ever notice all the Barton Bills people throw down in the post office or leave on the table tops?
Most are opened but alot are still sealed!
Bummer there’s not a better way!
