S. Tahoe starting to work on plan for state line area
South Lake Tahoe is hosting a public workshop on the Tourist Core Area Plan formerly known as the Stateline/Ski Run Community Plan on March 20 from 6-9pm at Lake Tahoe Airport.
City planning staff will be on hand to present information on the updated plan and to gather public input.
Tahoe Regional Planning Agency staff will also be present to discuss the recent adoption of the Regional Plan and its relationship to the Tourist Core Area Plan.
Stateline and Ski Run are fine last time I looked, what about the rest of the City?
Come on, City…work on the Tahoe Valley Plan. It is the only commercial core in the basin not to have a Community Plan adopted. Don’t avoid the Y any longer.
The HOLE at Stateline should be a large OUTDOOR EVENT CENTER so SLT could host:
World-class concerts and events
X Games
Winter Olympics
This will:
Create actual demand for both our under-utilized airport and parking garage.
Attract tourism during the shoulder seasons of late Spring and Fall through strategic event scheduling.
Inspire FREE media coverage over the GREEN construction and design to match its surroundings.
have the potential to redefine SLT and put us on the map globally as true leaders in the marriage between environmentalism and good economics!
Ryan—I continue to hear ideas like yours put forth here. It’s a good idea and if you owned the property I’d encourage you to do it. However, can you convince the real owners that there is a return on their investment by doing it? They’ve had their money tied up for many years and just recently got the propert;y back through bankruptcy from the Randy Lane company which failed to follow through with the convention center.
Why not see if they’d be willing to sell the property to you.
Shouldn’t stateline be more of a priority? After all !! The crater has been a eye sore for many years now. Imagine all the revnue wasted by time standing still.
Regarding sporting spectacles at Stateline, wouldn’t the loop road bypass project help create a special event area for X games-style events? I am not saying that’s a reason to support the loop road project (and am probably opening the wrong can of worms by saying it), but with the main highway going around, the main boulevard could be occasionally closed as it was a couple of years ago with Tahoe Opening Day without the traffic impacts we had then.
tahoeadvocate:
I appreciate your support for the creation of an OUTDOOR EVENT CENTER in place of the HOLE in the ground at Stateline.
I choose to voice my opinion in this public forum, because I do not personally know the owners of the property and I do not have the resources for such an endeavor.
Besides, it is my opinion that the idea belongs to the entire community, since everybody would benefit from an OUTDOOR EVENT CENTER in place of the HOLE at Stateline.
The results would be extraordinary and transformational for this town. Investment would rush in and increased revenues would cause visible results on our businesses and neighborhoods in a fairly short amount of time. ( < 10yrs?)
Make the hole into an outdoor concert venue. There they can have the Harvey’s outdoor concerts and Snowglobe all at Stateline, but in California for the tax revenue. Of course, Harvey’s has options. The can also build Xgames stuff too. That area needs somethings other than the look it has now.
