1 person dies in accident at Caples Lake
A Florida man died Monday when the vehicle he was driving went off the road near Caples Lake dam.
The name of the 25-year-old from Hobe Sound is not being released pending notification of family.
According to California Highway Patrolman Paul Smyrski, the victim was headed toward Kirkwood on Highway 88 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle. About 1 inch of snow was on the ground. The Toyota pickup did not make the sharp left onto the dam. The vehicle left the road, went up a dirt embankment, struck a tree and sign post and then went airborne.
The vehicle then hit a metal gate and post before it went off a small cliff, hit a cedar tree and landed on the driver’s side.
The drive was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Smyrski told Lake Tahoe News alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the April 14 4:45pm fatality.

very sad.
We may need more signs stating to slow down. If one is not familiar with this area, tragedies like this, although rare, do happen.
R.I.P. young man.
Miss you bro… You will always be rmbr’ed.
We miss you already brother…
Some things will just never make sense. Some people will never be forgotten. We love you so much Ben. Losing you our friend will be a forever horrific imprint on our hearts reminding us of life’s fragility & that we all must meet Our Maker, some sooner than others. May we all draw closer to Him through this time. May you rest in peace sweet sweet Ben.

This is such a tragedy miss you bro.
All the “slow down” signs in the world will never help some people.
Horse tail, really? That’s quite uncalled for. I knew this kid. My brother and him were friends and we grew up together. No matter what you think, that is not something that should be posted on this. His family and friends are grieving and this is the trash you post?! Get a life.
RIP Marine, you will be missed.
This young man was very special. He was a Corporal in the USMC, and a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. He will be dearly missed.
SJ and other family and friends: I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.
I will always remembers the good and fun times we had.I will never forget you.
God Bless Ben and his precious family. What a terrific loss for family, friends and USMC.
Ben, really?! Can’t wait till I cross the finish line and see you. No matter how many times I read this…it just doesn’t seem real, it doesn’t seem possible. The only hope and peace I have is in Jesus Christ. I know you are with him. I cannot imagine what you were thinking and feeling in those last moments in your truck, but you’re safe now. Your mission on Earth was complete and God wanted you home. I love you and I will miss you while here on Earth, but I know the other side is better. Keep sweatin’ your pants off and dancin’ to the oldies, Richard ;) I know you would not want us to mourn, but to be happy, happy because you loved us all and we will see you again. Glorious day! :D
Love you Killer,
;) your best frand ;):*
