Letter: CalFire warning about scam
To the community,
It has come to our attention that residents in the Lake Tahoe Basin area may be receiving phone calls from a caller claiming to be with CalFifre who is soliciting funds.
CalFire has not, and will never, call residents asking them to donate money to support the department due to State budget cuts.
Amador-El Dorado-Sacramento Unit Chief Kelly Keenan states, “This is clearly a scam and we want to caution anyone who has received or may receive a phone call asking them to donate money to CalFire to hang up their phone. The state of California would never solicit funds in this manner.”
Teri Mizuhara, CalFire
I think that it is ironic that a scam would warn others about a scam. Cal Fire has squandered millions on unneeded overtime, hidden money from auditors and charged fees to those who already have fire protection fees taken out of their taxes. I’m sure that there are honest people there, too. The bad apples spoil the taste of the good apples.
Ah, now we know — It’s OK for CalFire to steal our money, but they don’t want someone else to scam us out of our money.
Reader, the illegal tax wasn’t CalFire’s idea.
That totally belongs to Governor Moonbeam. He’s the one who came up with the illegal tax (fee!) and then took CalFire’s funding away via the back door. This is HIS baby.
