The above information relates to an Academy in Placerville. To volunteer In South Lake Tahoe call the Sheriff’s office at 573-3000. A separate Academy will be held in the Lake Tahoe area. Being a STAR volunteer is not only a valuable and important service in your own community and beyond, but you are working with a dedicated and fun group of people. STAR means Sheriff’s Team of Active Retirees. As well as the above activities, in the Tahoe area we check on trail heads, beach areas and other public areas to maintain safety and help prevent breakins. We also assist tourists when requested and work with the Sheriff’s deputies as needed.
