Meeting all about faster access to Internet

image_pdfimage_print

There will be a meeting about broadband on June 24 from 6:30-7:30pm at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex in the Aspen Room.

This meeting will focus on the broadband needs of businesses and residence in the South Lake Tahoe and Meyers area. Local Internet service providers will describe their services.

The meeting is being put on by the Gold Country Broadband Consortium, which is one of 14 regional consortia in the state funded by the California Advanced Services Fund Rural and Urban Regional Broadband Consortia grant program to leverage regional, state and national resources as an investment in improving and expanding broadband access.

The goal of the consortium is to provide choices for affordable Internet service. In order to do that, the GCBC is in the process of mapping out demand by rural homeowners, neighborhoods and business owners and conducting community meetings.

The GCBC needs the assistance of rural residents and businesses by taking a speed test and sending the results to russ@sedcorp.biz, with a physical street address, to be included in the mapping process.

To conduct the speed test, go online. This website is used to record the results of all speed tests and reported to the CPUC. The goal is to get service to those who don’t have it and to upgrade service that doesn’t meet the state standard of 6 mbps down and 1.5 mbps up.

I went into this and at the end of the test it asked for money ,Why should I have to pay for good service? As far as I am concern ,this is a money scam ,try it ,I will not pay for this ,Charter charges enough as it is,

Speedtest.net does contain a “Start Now” button which is a false start that leads to another web site (RegCleanPro) It is somewhat deceptive, instead click on the “Begin Test” button.

Once the test completes, click on the “Share This Result” button, click “Copy” and paste the URL to the result into an email to russ@sedcorp.biz.

Results in Xmas Valley on Charter are actually very good:

and extremely reliable (for me anyway.)

My ATT DSL is so wonderful. For four years it would go out from four
minutes to forty hours. How fun it was to call their service in bombay
india and ask, beg, for an appointment with a tech guy. I have all of the tech guys cell phone numbers if you want them. So after four years of this totally and CRAPPY service they found a water leak in a transmission line a half mile from my home. Took FOUR YEARS TO FIND IT. So when I called ATT for some kind of compensation, they offered me $60.00 I told them to go eat their lunch money. THEN THEY TRIED TO RAISE MY SERVICE CHARGE FROM $21 to $43. I FLIPPED OUT.

    All,

When doing the speed test please avoid the Start Now button and wait for the Begin Test Button. When the test is complete use the Share the Results Button and send the information to russ@sedcorp.biz

    Thanks
