Series of classes focuses on gardening
The Green Thumb Workshop Series starts today with a talk about “Food Gardening 101” featuring Christy Daugherty, formerly from the U.S. Forest Service and now part of the Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners.
For people who are interested in making their landscape a little more productive, this is a talk to go to. Learn how to start from seeds and end the season with a bushel of fresh fruits and veggies.
Bring your gardening questions and concerns to the UC Tahoe City Field Station (2400 Lake Forest, just east of Tahoe City) from 5:30-6:30pm.
Additional Green Thumb Workshops include:
July 9: Right Plant-Right Place
July 16: Pest Management-What’s Bugging You?
July 23: Composting From Garbage to Garden
July 30: Get Wild in Your Garden
Aug. 6: Sprinkle or Shower? Efficient Irrigation
Aug. 20: The Dirt on Your Garden Soil.
This is great. Any chance this will be offered on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe?
Sheri,
Yes it would be great if we could get “Food Gardening 101” on So. Shore. More and more people are growing food here. My neighbors and friends all have gardens and it’s become a “growing trend”.
Bad pun aside, let all of So. Shore know you CAN grow your own food right here in SLT.
Keep on growin’, Old long Skiis
I’d love this too. Currently have raised beds that are doing fine but want more variety and info on caring for Bees!!
This same workshop was scheduled for South Shore on Monday June 24th at the Evans Garden on Olympia Circle. All Green Thumb workshops take place on South Shore on Mondays followed by Tahoe City on Tuesday and Incline on Wed. Future south shore workshops will be held at the LTCC Demonstration Garden. Snowshoe Trekker & Marlenein Tahoe,
Snowshoe, thanks for the number for Master Gardeners. I’ll be calling to find out more and the date and time of the next event.
Marlene, you want variety for your raised bed? Here’s what I’m growing. 4 kinds of lettuce: Black seeded simpson, Ice, Mesclun and Romaine. Snow peas, Green beans (bush type) climbing peas on the vine, Spinach and Cilantro.
Green onions, Red and White potatoes, Radishes and Carrots. A few herbs and spices. Zucchini and Buttercup squash, Strawberries, Cantaloupe and some other odds and ends.
Bees? Never raised them but they do like my Columbine.
Good luck with the bees, we need them if we are to survive on this planet. No bees = no food.
Just say no to GMO’S!!!Grow your own! Take care, OLS
