SUP contest returns to South Lake Tahoe

Last year SUP pro athlete Anthony Vela hailed the Race the Lake of the Sky his top pick for the best standup paddle event of the year.

This year’s event kicks off June 28 with race clinics where world renowned hosts Candice Appleby (SurftechSup, FCSSUP, Ocean Minded) and Anthony Vela (Boardworks Surf, FCSSUP, Ocean Minded) will share a few keys to paddling success.

On June 29 there will be a 5-mile race, SUP cross events and a special event for kids.

That Sunday there will be a 14-mile distance race, relays and the best “sweet” move contest.

Music and food will be on shore at El Dorado Beach in South Lake Tahoe.

Too bad all but the Emerald Bay course stay right in front of El Dorado Beach. It would be nice if one could run from El Dorado to the State Line or beyond and back so others on the South Shore (Timber Cove, Bijou, Ski Run, Lakeside, Edgewood) could enjoy it without having to go to El Dorado.

You really think that is a good idea?
Putting the path right through the channel at Ski Run Marina? Around all of those jet skis….
    On a weekend.

I believe the paddle boards do have the right of way even though it might create some problem for the PWCs, etc.

Some type of water events which run the length of the South Shore just seems like a good idea to involve the tourists and residents along Timber Cove, Ski Run and Lakeside.

Maybe paddle boards isn’t the answers. Any ideas?
Make it a South Lake Tahoe event not an El Dorado Beach one.

El Dorado Beach ~ Lakeview Commons. I’d like to see one name for consistency. Being clear will make it less challenging for tourists.
