Weekend rain to bring prescribed fires

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews may resume prescribed fire operations on the South Shore June 23.

If forecasted rain moves into the basin, crews expect to burn approximately 10 acres near the Cold Creek area. Operations are scheduled to last through Tuesday, weather and conditions permitting.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.

USFS, it’s drying up quick out there. I have a great deal of faith in knowing that you will make the right decision, but I must implore you to take nothing for granted. That area’s piles are ripe and ready to go, and our forest will be safer and healthier when they are gone. But don’t forget that just two days ago we were at an EXTREME fire danger, weren’t we?
