Lightning strikes much of eastern California

There were 1,754 lightning strikes within California and 1,008 strikes within the National Forests in the state in the 24-hour period ending at 6am July 5.

None of them was in the Tahoe National Forest.

However, the two fires from Wednesday evening, south of Truckee and west of Highway 89, are in patrol status.

No additional lightning is expected today for the TNF.
