Then and now: Camp Rich ice cream shop had another life
From the 1930s to 1980s the “souvenir shop” at Camp Richardson stocked everything from film, postcards and trinkets to moccasins to toys to clothing.
The totem poles in front were from the movie set of “Rose Marie”, a classic 1936 musical starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy which was filmed at South Shore and Cascade Lake.
Today, the historic building houses the summertime ice cream parlor.
The historic photo, likely 1940s, was furnished by Bob and Tammy Hassett. The current photo I took.

Where’s the totem pole now?
Thanks Bill
I was wondering the same thing. I vaguely recall seeing the totem poles; my earliest memories of Camp Rich would be about 1965. When were the totem poles removed? Please tell me they’ve been preserved somewhere….?
I appreciate your looks back, Bill. Is there a list somewhere of films made around South Shore?
Films with Tahoe scenes:

Anyone know the fate of those totem poles? I believe the Bay View Resort had one or more, also.
I always love to read Bill’s stories–keep up the great work!
Camp Rich Ice Cream Parlor is the best deal in town for ice cream. Just look at the lines that come out of the door every day. Its also a great place for teenagers to get a summer job. Camp Rich is one of the best employers around… :)
