Incline may require bear-resistant trash cans

image_pdfimage_print

Incline Village has delayed making a decision on whether bear-resistant garbage cans will be mandatory.

Waste Management Inc. representatives will give a presentation Sept. 25 to the Incline Village General Improvement District board.

Nevada Department of Wildlife officials said of the 237 human-bear conflicts in Northern Nevada in 2012, 22 percent were in Incline Village.

The number of conflicts is on the rise. Much of it has to do with bears getting into garbage. This is also causing more human-human conflicts when traps are set and bears are killed.

Each of the 4,200 single-family homes in Incline may have to pay $250 for the containers.

$ 1,050,000 because humans can’t behave responsibly? And no guarantee that this will “solve” the problem. Gotta love government… And they wonder why we are losing faith in our leadership.

    Dumb,
Why don’t you try to act a little more responsibly by getting a clue about bear behavior?
$250/per household charge for the folks in Incline Village is doable and I’m sure most over there will support this.

I’m the one who needs a clue? I have lived in the same house in Tahoe for over 35 years and never had a bear get into my garbage. My family is responsible with our garbage. I don’t need the government to help me to be responsible. If residents of Incline Village wish to do this, who am I do disagree? But, I don’t need any clues. I completely get it, obviously.

Alex you do seem to come up with so unusual Conspiracy Theories. Waste Management is a 12 billion dollar company, this type of purchase is a drop in the bucket for them. The problem with ammonia is people get lazy and dont continue to use it.
