Commercial crayfish harvest policies changing

image_pdfimage_print

The potential to commercially harvest crayfish from the California side of Lake Tahoe is in the works.

Nevada has allowed this for a couple years. But California had a law preventing the sale or purchase of crayfish taken from Lake Tahoe. Gov. Jerry Brown on Sept. 6 repealed that law. Next up is for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife to allow the commercial harvest.

Scientists say crayfish are contributing to the lake’s loss of clarity. So by allowing commercial fishing of them, it may help improve lake clarity.

The sunny side Marina, Tahoe Vista Marina and Crawdads where my babysitter all spring and summer for most of my child hood.

A piece of string, some meat, and a bucket is all a kid needs to fill a day @ Tahoe.

Dinner of Crawdads was not bad.

I guess I am sayin, so long as this never changes I do not care.

Crawdads are not contributing to Lake Tahoes clarity loss. That is a garbage statement…

I too don’t believe that this is correct. I would really like to see the science behind this statement. A crustacean that eats anything including algae is not the cause of loss of clarity. Show the science and prove me wrong, please.
