North Tahoe firefighters return from Rim Fire

The five North Tahoe Fire Department firefighters who were sent to the Rim Fire are expected back in Tahoe Tuesday tonight.

They have been helping fight the Yosemite area inferno for nearly two weeks.

Firefighter Greg Smith shot the photos from the camp burn over when he and his trainee were caught in a safety zone.

“It was a big safety zone and we were fine,” Smith wrote to his colleagues in Lake Tahoe.

The fire has burned 235,841 acres and is 80 percent contained.
