Then and Now: El Dorado Beach — always popular
El Dorado Beach in South Lake Tahoe has been a popular place for decades.
Dressing rooms used to be on the beach. For many years there was no restroom. The city put in bathrooms that opened last year when it created what is now Lakeview Commons.
To create the original park-like setting several trees had to be taken down.

The newly remodeled El Dorado Beach/Lakeview Commons is the bomb-diggity! In the 30 years I’ve been hangin’ in this town, I’ve never seen so many locals take advantage of that venue. As far as I’m concerned the South Lake Tahoe City Council nailed this one.
LAKEVIEW COMMONS IS A SUCCESS ! ! ! I was about 6 years old when I first used El Dorado beach. The pictures here are before my time. Does anyone have pictures of the burro rides where the miniature golf course sits today ? Marjorie Springmeyer ran the burrow rides.
ditto re: Toogee – this has probably been the nicest redevelopment project that benefits the largest variety of folks undertaken in SLT – now if the city will just realize that 24/7 paid parking on “city” streets is a buzz kill for visitors and locals alike!
Happy Happy Happy to Hear such Fantasticly Positive Feedback – It was a Giant Collaborative Effort that included The People, The California Tahoe Conservancy, The City, The County, The TRPA, Lahontan, The People, The People, The People! Revel in It! :)
