Time to sweep the chimney

image_pdfimage_print

With the cooler nights soon to be upon us, it’s time to make sure your chimney is in safe working order.

We at the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department annually respond to numerous chimney fires, mainly due to creosote buildup in the chimney flue. This type of fire has the potential to extend into your house and do major damage.

To prevent this from happening, the fire department recommends periodic cleaning of your chimney. Thanks for helping keep our community fire safe.

I really should have this done,

I burned the first logs of the fall night before last.

So I had s big HOT fire going, had to open the windows to let the heat out.
Did I burn out all the build up? Or it really could still be a problem.

My chimney is an exposed metal pipe in my living space till it hits the roof so not worried about it lighting something off in a crawl space. its not configured like that.

But? it must be nasty in the 8 feet of pipe that has 2 years of smoke going through it
