As a “part-time resident” here in SLT, I still get confused by the 2 Chambers of Commerce. Is this the “Tahoe South” (which includes the LTVA) or the South Lake Tahoe Chamber? I must say that the “Tahoe South” does not ring well with me (ok, sounds like poor grammar), and following the “Big Blue” campaign — it all sounds so stupid. For a mountain town, I like historic, consistent, identifiable, memorable, verbiage -which brings me all the elements of the mountain town that I came to love.

Changing identity(s) does not build memory, history, credibility, authenticity, etc for a town that should be steeping in wonderful, old memories and building better memories on top of these. I worked as a Ski Ambassador in Sun Valley, and lived and worked in Aspen, Colorado. I am so glad they never got rid of their history…

I just need to say this: Big Blue and Tahoe South are cheap tinsel on a mountain town that deserves to have it’s history and the lake embellished in the identity used to promote it. I am almost 69 years old and have been coming here for 50 years and have owned property since 1991. This is SOUTH LAKE TAHOE! Not Tahoe South. We are a mountain community that cares about the land, the lake and the people we live around. We need passionate folks to run our city in a balance, a our community commitment to this community is unparalleled – and it sustains us. We need to invite everyone to the table to flesh out the good & bad, and do all we can to help our businesses & community survive.

I got off track, but it is because I cannot recognize a divisive community that changes our identity: Tahoe South? Big Blue? Come on…. We are SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – not Tahoe South or Big Blue or Blue this & that…. If you want to change something, change how we do business and make it inviting to come to our place on the planet.
Engage the locals (How about Blue Ribbon Locals who contribute to this community? How about Blue Ribbon non-profit and community organizations who support this community?) How about awards for businesses that win the “fix-up facade” award for the year? South Lake Tahoe is an amazing community of folks who choose the mountain lifestyle…. and this is what makes city-folk want to visit here.

Irish, the south shore chamber was formed when the the chamber at stateline and the chamber in the city merged a few years back. Some business owners thought that the new organization was leaning more towards the chamber and so they formed their own chamber. The South Shore Chamber and the LTVA(TahoeSouth website)are two different orgainzations with completely different boards of directors that control them. The reason for the TahoeSouth name is because when they were making up the website the name southlaketahwo was already taken. If they were going to market the website to have people get information they need to market tahoesouth. If they marketed as south lake tahoe people may very well get confused and go to southlaketahoe.com and not get the information they are looking for. But rather information from someone who is out of area.

    Irish Wahini,
I’m with you on this one. Tahoe South does sound cheap and was a bad idea from the get go. As a 51 year resident of South Lake Tahoe I’ve seen many ideas and name changes brought forth that were really lame.
We will always be South Lake Tahoe. Let’s be proud of our heritage and promote the history of our long history here, and we will be all better off for it!!!! El Dorado Beach should keep its name and drop the Lakeview Commons name( dumb). Raleys at stateline will always be Crescent V,(to me anyway).
Lets clean up what we have in this town (commercial and residential) and be proud of what we’ve recently accomplished over the past few years. Sidewalks in South Shore with overhead lighting? Who would have thought that would ever happen???
No, I’m not living in the past, the past lives in me, that is what makes me what I am today. Enjoying a long life in one of the most beautiful places on earth. That is why people still flock here! They can’t wait to get to Tahoe!!!!
    Take Care, Old Long Skiis
