Truckee officials are considering raising the sales tax by one-quarter cent. The money would be used to construct and maintain trails.

There will be a town hall meeting Jan. 7 at 5:30pm at Truckee Town Hall.

Officials would like to put the question to voters on the June ballot.

The town council will discuss the issue at the Jan. 14 meeting.

Can’t they just open up more “dispensaries” and call it even?

Suggestion: Fund the construction and maintaining of trails out of bountiful existing tax revenues, and put the matter of bureaucrats’ salaries, pensions, and other such expenses on the ballot for voter review.

    Let’s see –

    1) Paid parking to shop in Truckee
    2) Plastic bag ban with shoppers having to pay for bags next year
    3) Higher prices than anywhere else around in all stores
    4) Little competition and as a result, limited selection
    5) Reno less than 30 miles away with gas there as much as a dollar a gallon less than in Truckee

Now they want to raise the sales tax rate on people? Have they lost all sense of sanity there?

After receiving a parking ticket when I went out to breakfast there a couple of years ago, I vowed to never spend another nickel in that town. And I haven’t.

Message to South Lake Tahoe on paid parking – you might look at the success Truckee has had with it, or as most see it, utter failure.

Construct and maintain trails, looks to be a great cause. Wonder what kind of trails, and where will they go.
