Bill would limit power of EPA

By Robin Wilkey, Huffington Post

A new bill introduced by House Republicans would limit the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency to recommend or implement policies.

The bill, dubbed the Secret Science Reform Act, would force the EPA to publicly release its research on a topic before issuing a policy recommendation, and require that the research be “reproducible.” Supporters claim the bill will increase transparency in public policy, while opponents have accused the bill’s authors of trying to “keep the EPA from doing its job.”

“Virtually every regulation proposed by the Obama administration has been justified by nontransparent data and unverifiable claims,” Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, who sponsored the bill, said in a statement. “The American people foot the bill for EPA’s costly regulations, and they have a right to see the underlying science. The Secret Science Reform Act of 2014, which I sponsored, prohibits EPA from using secret science to justify new regulations.”

The EPA needs to be reigned in. They are a lawless agency that gets away with actions which would put people behind bars in the private sector.

If there’s one thing that Richard Nixon did which I fault him for, it’s establishing the EPA.

Yeah! We can be just like China! (Or Los Angeles during the 70’s.) Breathing and living in filth… NOT!

What’s the problem, Lamar, Republicans don’t believe in Science anyway, so what if they release the findings to you or not. Oh, this guy is from Texas where they like to build Fertilizer Plants in the middle of town so when they blow up it takes down the local nursing home too.

The EPA was created by President Nixon after rivers started catching fire in Ohio from so much pollution and breathing the Air in Los Angeles was like smoking a pack of cigarettes a day; this is nothing to look back on with nostalgia Lamar.

So Lamar, just go back to your office and keep watching those cartoon documentaries call “The Flintstones” you like so much.

If the current Administration wasn’t abusing the power the EPA has to further its totalitarian agenda, nobody would be trying to curb their power. But Obama is forcing the issue by using his agencies to create de facto laws that he can’t pass legally.
You shouldn’t complain. By stopping this now, you on the left will be protected from abuse by the right when they eventually come into power. As they will. Everything is cyclical.

LOL! Taking your talking points from Fish, r4t? You need to start thinking for yourself.
Oh, and I’ve never been a Republican. Not that it matters.

“You need to start thinking for yourself.”

That’s ironic coming from a YEC

The secret science reform act, what a farce. Since its a republican proposal I see the secret scientists they will now propose to believe will include the likes of billy o, anne coulterquist, glen beck, and rush limpthing. Yes, the tea party folk have been drinking the pink koolaid in excess and will soon have all their Ilk believing in their special brand of tea. The rest of america wont be so easily fooled. Lmao

    Okay Thing Fish,
What’s a YEC? Skibum Ken explained to me what a gaper was. Now I need to find out about what a YEC is.
Man, I’m not at all up with all this new lingo! I reckon I come frome a different place and time.
Anybody want a pair of bell bottom pants, earth shoes or a pair of dingo boots, flowered shirts and some 8 track tapes of the Doors, Beatles, Iron Butterfly along with many others of that era?
Peace brother, Old Long Skiis (when the skiis were made out of wood along with leather lace up ski boots and we used cable bindings and Stein Erikson was THE MAN).

    Kenny,
Thanks for another explanation. YEC, I’m not. A semi-gaper? I might be a gaper to some extent, but I’m workin’ on gettin’ hip to the scene if you know what I mean, jellybean!!!
What’s your take on the Meyers proposed plan, parking garage, athletic center and so on??

Obama’s totalitarian agenda(sneer)…hey! i have a great idea…let’s trust the resource extractive and chemical industry’s to…….wait for it…….wait for it… REGULATE THEMSELVES! after all, who better to benignly steward the critters and flora of our environment than those greedhead scam artists who will profit by its exploitation? pipeline leaks, coal ash discharges into rivers, groundwater pollution, nuclear waste, so-called clean technology production, military waste, purveyors of birth defects, factory farms, ceo’s and board members of megapolluters showing up as cabinet post members and then as lobbyists…with all this knowledge and management expertise how could anyone think they would ever make a decision or advocate policies that would intentionally harm even one little numbered feather on a bald eagle? or put pis- in your drinking water. it must be a, a…a…a LIBERAL CONSPIRACY!(con’s piracy) or God’s (as in white Israeli minor deity ‘Yahweh’) Will!

“Ignorance is bliss, unless you’re surrounded by it”. . . if & when the world goes to ‘hell-in-a-handbasket’, (coming soon to a neighborhood near you !). . . no doubt a Texan banker will be the first on the scene to fix it – (no, wait ! – let’s call the government first !! – will be his response, most likely calling from his limousine on the way to the Country Club). . .

“secret science ?”. . .the science we now have in front of us has not been digested well enough by this crowd. . .in “getting it”.

The EPA has really no need to foist any secret science on us. . . the present is looming in front of us. . .

  12. go figure says - Posted: February 12, 2014

The flat earth society and the YEC folk will believe anything that the foxnoise scientists spew so if they say that all polution is good and that we can trust the industry to police their own industry to keep us safe, than it must be so. Pass the kool aid please….

Is ‘no information’ more expedient than ‘dis-information’? I’m wondering if we should just do away with NEWS, period. If people don’t know what’s being done to the environment in their backyard or upriver, or to people, they won’t become corporate criticizing, profit disrupting, tree-hugging, obama loving, girlie-man whining dissenters. After all, what humans are REALLY about is being CONSUMERS. Not ‘thinkers’, not ‘feelers’, not ‘spiritual beings’.
