Fallen Leaf Lake fire tax up for a vote

image_pdfimage_print

Fallen Leaf Lake voters will be asked on June 3 to vote on a special fire tax.

The small South Shore enclave is not generating enough money to support its volunteer fire department.

The tax would not exceed $660 per unit each year. However, the amount would rise based on inflation.

The annual appropriations limit would be extended for four years.

It will be called Measure A.

There will be no way to get votes from all the people paying taxes because of the current voting situation. The majority of the community cannot legally participate in voting per Vern Pierson (El Dorado County DA). Although some people have registered to vote perhaps illegally, less than one half of the people paying this tax will not or cannot vote.

    Can you taxation without representation!

Mike, that’s the same issue that about half the homeowners in SLT and El Dorado County within the basin face. They don’t live here, but they pay taxes, trash and water bills, while they don’t use the services but a few weeks a year.
That’s the system. you only get to vote from one location.
