It could be a month before officials know the ignition source of the fire that destroyed a house last week in South Lake Tahoe.

The fire on Long Avenue erupted Jan. 29, causing more than $300,000 in damage. It was unoccupied while repairs were being made from prior frozen pipe damage.

Police and fire officials are working the investigation to determine who set the fire.

“The lab samples take about a month, so the fire investigation is still open and undetermined at this point,” Fire Chief Jeff Meston told Lake Tahoe News.
