Money available to mitigate Indian gaming damage

The El Dorado County Indian Gaming Local Benefit Committee has $49,847.04 from the state controller to distribute in the form of grants for programs and activities designed to mitigate the impact of gaming upon the community.

Eligible agencies, including cities and special districts, may apply.

Applications will be accepted until April 4.

    Since the Indian Casinos have cut into our number of visitors, it is hard to say exactly who is affected the most.

    Looking at the grant form, it seems you have to fall into one (or more) of these categories: behavioral health, child care, law enforcement, emergency medical services, environmental, fire services, planning land use, public health, recreation and youth programs, roads, waste disposal, water supplies.

    My hope is that recreation and youth programs get the lion share of the money. Ultimately, it is the youth of parents laid off or cutback on work that are affected the most.

    Based on that comment, it is obvious that the grant money should go to law enforcement to pay for the swat vehicle…
