Prescribed fires planned for Tunnel Creek

The Nevada Division of Forestry will be conducting prescribed burns at Tunnel Creek in the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park backcountry in March, April and May, weather permitting.

The Tunnel Creek road from Highway 28 to Tunnel Creek Station may be closed in order to conduct the burns. Signs will be posted throughout the area when burns are being conducted.

Fifty acres will be burned in eight treatment units.

The burns are part of ongoing fuels treatment and forest restoration efforts being conducted by the Nevada Tahoe Resource Team in the Lake Tahoe area. The goal of the project is to create a healthier forest and to make the area more resistant to catastrophic wildfire.

For more information, contact the Nevada Division of Forestry at 775.684.2500.

I believe Tunnel creek starts about 600ft above Marlette Lake, as you peak your climb from the Spooner side, there is a trail that cuts to the left behind the sign, climb that quick but gruel hill and tunnel creek trail starts and then ends at hwy 28, super fun on the bike

I believe the Tunnel creek trail starts about 600 ft above Marlette Lake, as you climb from the Spooner side and peak out just before the quick fire road downhill to Marlette, there is a left behind the large map sign, that is a quick but gruel uphill where the Tunnel Creek trail starts and then ends at hwy 28, super fun on the bike
