I experienced this event, last year, after I heard about this day from a friend, while on an emergency trip to So Cal to help my ill mother-in-law. I returned to Tahoe, having to leave my husband with his family, due to commitments here.

As you can imagine, my worry and stress (along with guilt for having left) were at optimum levels, and the promise of a day of pampering was all that I had to look forward to.

I was not disappointed. Upon being greeted by the welcoming ladies, armed with soothing mimosas, I knew this morning was going to be extraordinary.

I participated in all activities that applied to a 51 year old mom, starting with yoga. What I wasn’t prepared for was the theme of the work out. This being my first experience at Tibetian Heart Yoga, I found myself filled with emotions. The theme was “compassion” and our teacher asked us to picture someone who needed our help. Instantly, my ailing mother-in-law, a woman I consider my true mom, was there before me. During the lesson, we were to give our ‘someone’ six gifts. Each gift became more poignant and emotion-evoking than the previous. I left feeling both guilt and stress-free. A truly unexpected treasure.

Oh, but that’s when the pampering began. After fueling up on Blue Angel’s delicious brunch, I headed to my scheduled treats: chair massage, facial and Thai massage. Each was a luxury I had never afforded myself. I truly felt like a queen.

I enjoyed discussing various issues of women’s health with the ladies womanning the booths. I took away great information and even left with an unexpected gift of a book, to huddle under the covers with, from South Lake Tahoe’s Library.

My girlfriend and I finished the morning with Nikki from KAIA f.i.t. Boy did she “Jump Start our Day”. She took us outside and taught us how to be healthy just by simple movements. She was encouraging and motivating.

I didn’t realize just how beneficial the Barton Health’s “Mom’s Morning Out” was going to be, but it has to be one of the most unforgettable mornings for me. I was able to let go and just enjoy myself. All the effort and hard work, by the amazing Barton team, was truly worth it.
