Sandoval slams BLM for ‘First Amendment Area’

By Laura Myers, Las Vegas Review-Journal

Gov. Brian Sandoval on Tuesday accused the Bureau of Land Management of violating Nevadans’ constitutional rights to protest a BLM roundup of cattle on federal land and slammed the agency for creating an “atmosphere of intimidation.”

Sandoval called on the BLM to dismantle a so-called “First Amendment Area” the agency designated to allow demonstrators to protest the gathering of rancher Cliven Bundy’s 500 head of cattle. The federal government is rounding up the cattle around Bunkerville because Bundy has refused for 20 years to pay grazing fees.

“Due to the roundup by the BLM, my office has received numerous complaints of BLM conduct, road closures and other disturbances,” Sandoval said in a statement. “I have recently met with state legislators, county officials and concerned citizens to listen to their concerns.”

“I have expressed those concerns directly to the BLM,” he added. “Most disturbing to me is the BLM’s establishment of a ‘First Amendment Area’ that tramples upon Nevadans’ fundamental rights under the U.S. Constitution.”

I’m glad Mr. Sandoval FINALLY decided to address the issue, but it’s MUCH more than just a 1st Amendment issue. This is a gross overreach by the Federal government over an individual who has had grazing rights since the 1870s. This is a travesty. The Federal government is out of control. Public land belongs to the public, NOT to the government.

A group of patriots has formed an armed militia to protect mr. Bundy, his family and his property from the government. Many of them are already enroute to Clark county to protect the rancher’s rights.

Americans won’t shoot fellow Americans, and the government mules will be forced to stand down.

Actually dog, the bundy’s have a right to this land as they have had possession of the land for the better of 150 years.

The Bundys and their posse are no match for government drones. Pay your fees Bundy or hang high.

“Frist Amendment Area”? Spell check, please!

Those of you who are assuming that this is Mr. Bundy’s fault and that the Federal government is acting correctly in this action need to delve a little deeper into it. This isn’t about grazing fees or desert tortoises. And it isn’t Mr. Bundy who is starting a ‘range war’.
This is a heinous action on the government’s part, and now they’re killing the cattle. Cruel and unnecessary.

Let me be the “frist ” to say, I like it when LTN makes a spelling mistake. Lets me know I’m not the only one who goofs up once in awhile. OLS

If only the federal government would use the same amount of diligence, resources and vigor rounding up illegal immigrants, I would be of a different opinion regarding the Bundy’s.

But this is about cattle and property rights, and the cattle represent no threat whatsoever. Illegal immigrants on the other hand are not only a threat to our nation, but they’re a drain on our resources.

Dogula and others, Mr Bundy lost in federal court, this is simply about the law. Had he won, then he could have continued in accordance with the ruling. It is quite simple, we are a country of laws, not do as you please. In this case the feds are exercising their rights to remove the cattle.

Rick, then how can you support immigrants entering into the country illegally?

  13. Rick says - Posted: April 10, 2014

A.B. that is why I, along with the vast majority of Americans believe in immigration reform. I believe in legally solving the problem. Just an FYI that you would not know if you listen to right-wing nut cases, the Obama Administration has deported more illegal immigrants than did George W. and all previous administrations. Obama averages some 32,000/month, W was about 20,000/month.

Again, I seek legal solutions and believe in obeying the law (though I do regularly break speed limit laws – but when I am caught, I do not fight it).

Our next logical fallacy, the Straw Man.

I love this comment, ” . . . and now they’re killing the cattle. Cruel and unnecessary.”

Pesky government, killing those poor cattle before they could be slaughtered for steaks and hamburgers, how cruel!

The bundys are abuseing their contract and deserve to suffer the consequences of their actions. We shouldnt even allow cattle grazing on PUBLIC lands as these cattle do extensive damage and tend to destroy the range lands.
Soon as I read the title of this article I knew that dogzilla, cjbkab would have to up their meds. So predictable…

  17. rock4tahoe says - Posted: April 18, 2014

First. I have no sympathy for cattle on public lands and if “Bundy” is not paying his rent, that is his problem. As far as 1st Amendment Rights, that is another stretch. If President Hoover can send in Troops to Washington DC to evacuated, by force, World War I Vets protesting a lack of bonus money paid, I would say good luck to Bundy and his cows.

Hey Bitter and Dog! Your cow pal “Bundy” turned out to be a real piece of work just like Don Sterling! Oh, but I forgot, the Stare Decisis Roberts Supreme Court says Racism is over in America.
