NHP going after unbuckled drivers

For the first time in five years fatalities are up nationwide for people not wearing a seatbelt, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In 2012, 10,335 unbelted vehicle occupants lost their lives. In Nevada, 41 unbelted vehicle occupants died last year.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is trying to reduce those numbers with the Click It or Ticket program that runs through June 1. This means troopers will be paying even more attention to unbelted drivers.

In 2012, 61 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed between 6pm and 6am were not wearing their seat belts. The NHP also said men are less likely to wear a seatbelt than women, younger people are less likely than older people, and pickup drivers are worse about buckling up than drivers of passenger cars.

Sorry dog, in this case (not necessarily excluding others) I don’t agree. As a fan of car racing in the ’50s, seeing what is possible for drivers to survive, I’ve insisted on wearing seat belts all my life, starting with my ’51 Chevy in which I had to have them installed.

I truly cannot understand the mentality of folks who choose to drive, safely or otherwise, without at least fastening their belts.

If you’re not worried about your insurance rates going up because of these folks and their death wishes, at least have some sympathy for the Highway Patrolmen and medics who have to clean up the mess they turn themselves into.

Copper. Dog doesn’t believe in any organized Government, hates our current Government and therefore “seat belt” laws and fines incurred are just a cost without benefit.

I am with dawg. Do not prevent stupid people from doing stupid things by taking their money.
Let the stupid game play out, in the long term they will be eliminated, and since they are stupid the net loss is positive because stupid people are a burden to everyone.
Go smoke crack, I don’t care, just don’t be a breeder. Keep your stupid to yourself. Separate church from state, be a jerk and go to work. Kill ugly radio.

Natural selection or evolution, weeding out the light weights. YES, hopefully the anti everything folks, against rules that are established for the safety of people, will be the ones that learn the hard way. I am sorry for the EMT/Police that have to deal with the outcome.
