With the counting of provisional votes in the District 5 seat in El Dorado County, the contest has gotten closer.

While the two vote getters are the same as when the original tallies came in with 100 percent of the precinct reporting on June 3, the separation between the second, third, and fourth place finishers has narrowed.

The more recent numbers are:

  • Sue Novasel – 1,508 votes, 38,44 percent
  • Kevin Brown – 950 votes, 17.92 percent
  • Angela Swanson – 938, 17.69 percent
  • Kenny Curtzwiler – 936, 17.65 percent
  • Gerri Grego – 656, 12.37 percent
  • Teresa Piper – 300, 5.66 percent.

The top two vote getters advance to the November runoff.

A final count could be days from now, with certification of the election always coming weeks after election day.

I do not understand the popularity of Novasel, and believe she must have some awsome SLT political machine.

Please, people, vote in the Nov election. This is important. Break the hold the old-line interests have on SLT and lets try something new.

Personally, I am pulling for Kevin Brown. I do not believe it is in Tahoe’s best interest to always have a Sup who is only and all about Tahoe.

Having good relations with the guys over the summit will serve us better than, for instance, the self agrandizing antics of Santiago.

Was it going to be named Santiagoville when the smart hub went up?

Santiago is obviously angling for a higher political position. The very fact that she says she is not, (given her record), is prima facia evidence that she is. I have lost count of how many faces she really has shown since being elected.

Sue’s popularity is due to her consistent character over many years in Tahoe. She’s sat on the school board, raised her kids here, and has spent countless hours volunteering. Along with Kenny and Angela they are us.

All three are suitable for the job IMHO.

Kevin Brown also appears to be a quality person, but it’s tough to crack the South Shore connections the other three possess.
