Looks like they will be discussing the lack of paid parking.

    68% yes
    32% no

with 1298 votes counted so far.

Interested in your thoughts. Is it just a no to paid parking or does it mean more. Is it mistrust for city council or a general mistrust for all gov”t? Does it mean voters are not willing to pay out of our own pockets to improve the city or is that paid parking hit locals too much and not enough for tourists or both? Other thoughts about what if anything happens next.

    1) They put meters in areas where they provide no services such as Venice Dr. Those meters took away access for many to one of the favorite beaches for locals. That after taking trailer parking away for local boaters.

    2) The parking enforcement program is extremely aggressive and targets locals at their homes.

    3) There was never an acknowledgement that installing permit parking in several communities does impact the value of the homes in those communities. If a buyer has two choice, and of course they have many more, they will choose the house without parking permits. It was just a hassle for the locals.

    4) Finally the Council was frankly condescending and rude about the whole thing with the public. That ticked people off. Conner and Swanson particularly ticked people off. But look at the cities materials about this vote; where is the cost of enforcement, why don’t they talk about the tickets they write in the neighborhoods?

For myself I think this is a statement to the council. I was/am concerned that if the program was found to be a money maker the program would spread all over town

Every request from a city department would become an emergency that required more parking meters be installed.

A rumor has been going around that many of the city employees who were forced out of their jobs were given early retirement at close to 100% of their pay. If all the city did was take a short term liability and move it over to the long term liability column I would feel betrayed.

Maybe you can address this issue on your show.

Not close to Sunriser! Some got to retire on 100% and more! of their last year’s pay. Yes, keep that in mind when the City talks about how it’s been supposedly reducing expenditures & liabilities!

Moral, I agree with your statement TOTALLY. And, yes – the parking enforcement officer has terrorized even the Sierra Tract, where I do not see a parking problem – and we have no beach. And Sunriser, I also agree with your concerns!

Locals need to have some redeeming factors for living in Tahoe and earning minimum wage.

Goodbye parking enforcement officer! Back to patrolling the KMart parking lot 12am – 6am.

  8. sunriser2 says - Posted: June 4, 2014

    Irish,

Why are the parking officers patrolling Sierra Tract?

  9. Moral Hazard says - Posted: June 4, 2014

Sunriser, the parking enforcement program hired 2 people at least at the start of paid parking. The City quickly realized that those officers can harass the citizens and extract parking ticket revenue. Even after paid parking is gone, the aggressive ticketing remains.

Remember, we only got rid of the meters, the new parking enforcement remains.

Austin: Why do we need parking enforcement department if parking is free? Police officers can give tickets to handicapped spots and the 15 meters at stateline. Stop the pork!!

  11. sunriser2 says - Posted: June 4, 2014

On the Nevada side volunteers have the use of an old sheriff’s car and take great pride in enforcing handicapped parking laws.

Why do we need to pay people for the same service?

  12. sunriser2 says - Posted: June 4, 2014

By the way Lake Tahoe TV has a live stream along with KTVU news from the bay area. Hulu is free and coupled with LTN who needs to pay $75.00 for basic cable?

I think the station is a must watch in the morning. Who cares what’s happening in Reno?

  13. Steve says - Posted: June 4, 2014

Mistrust of city council, mistrust of city manager, past extended history of continual blunders, wasteful expenditures, higher city taxes and fees for lower quality service, inflated salaries, deliberately misleading and deceptive lies about “profitability” of parking program, disconnect from citizenry, arrogant attitude. The City emperors forget to dress and don’t even know it.

  14. Buck says - Posted: June 4, 2014

Steve: That’s it in a nut shell. Sooner or later they will pay for their blunders, the record is in stone.
