‘Red flag’ warning issued for Tahoe, western Nev.
A “red flag” warning has been issued for most of western Nevada, as well as South Lake Tahoe and Truckee for June 12 from 8am-11pm.
The National Weather Service in Reno says it will be windy and dry through Friday.
The strongest winds are expected Thursday afternoon and evening. Low humidity adds to fire danger. The conditions mean fires can grow rapidly in size and intensity.
Officials are asking people to avoid activities that may spark a fire, like yard work, target shooting or having a campfire.
Red Flag Warning! High fire danger! With winds predicted to be in the 20’s and gusts up to 35, combined with low humidity and the wimpiest winter on record we all have to be real careful. This warning was issued by the national weather service or NOAA as it’s called. This is serious stuff! No campfires, no barbeques, yard work or anything that might trigger a spark is allowed.
We do not want a repeat of the Angora Fire. Please be careful everyone. If a fire gets into these dry pines we are toast!!!
Talk to your neighbors about being fire safe. Thank you, OLS
