S. Tahoe cracking down on personal fireworks

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department has increased its vigilance in enforcing state and city fireworks laws to protect public health and safety.

Virtually all fireworks that explode, shoot into the air or move along the ground are termed “dangerous”, and are illegal anywhere in California. Discharging any type of fireworks, including “safe and sane” fireworks, is against the law in South Lake Tahoe. This includes devices such as simple sparklers.

Police will confiscate any fireworks and issue citations to violators. Possession of larger style fireworks may be prosecuted as a felony.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, on a typical Fourth of July, fireworks cause more fires in the U.S. than all other causes combined.

I was in Folsom yesterday and as I drove along East Bidwell I saw two firework stands. If fireworks are illegal, why are these stands selling fireworks? The foothills in Folsom and El Dorado Hills are very dry. There should be a ban on all fireworks.

Fireworks are LEGAL based on municipal statutes, not state or federal laws. Some municipalities permit fireworks, others do not. For the best fireworks, go to Schurz, Nevada. They have fireworks there that are professional grade available for purchase by the public.

And then bring them to Tahoe and burn down a forest. Good plan.

Ya ab, we know you dont believe the federal guvmnt has any say in laws but I sure am glad they enforce the fireworks ban in national forest areas. I dare you to start setting off fireworks up here and not get into some serious bad times, not only from the feds but from your neighbors too. If you were my neighbor and started setting off fireworks id be using my cell phone to take pictures and calling 911. You burn down my house with your ignorance and stupidity you will pay the price.

AB “For the best fireworks, go to Schurz, Nevada.” Great tip AB… for a region in a drought with HIGH fire danger! How about gasoline and matches? AB the anarchist blogs his own mind again.

The reason fireworks are illegal in areas has less to do with the danger of fireworks and more to do with the regulation of human stupidity. There are more stupid humans and that screws the few of of who exercise good judgement when using fireworks.
