Truckee residents unquestionably want more trails.

Measure R won with 74.99 percent of the votes or 1,367 votes. Voting no were 456 people or 25.01 percent of the voters.

The decision means Truckee’s sales tax will grow by one-quarter cent to 8.375 percent. Nevada County’s sales tax is 7.625 percent, while the state average is 8.38 percent. It will be in effect for 10 years.

Officials estimate $10 million will be collected in that time. The bulk of it — $8 million – will be spent on new bike/walking trails, while the remainder will be dedicated for maintenance.
