18 arrests in SLT during holiday weekend; 3 beach fires

The U.S. Forest Service is investigating three fires that occurred at Round Hill Pines Beach on July 4.
USFS spokeswoman Cheva Heck told Lake Tahoe News they were the result of illegal fireworks. The investigation is ongoing
There were a lot of sirens over the holiday weekend on the South Shore. South Lake Tahoe police officers made 18 arrests in the 24-hour period starting at 5am July 4. Seven were for public intoxication, three for driving under the influence, two drug related arrests, and six miscellaneous arrests.
Fire and ambulances responded to 40 calls.
While the Forest Service was busy July 4, beach-goers were better behaved over the weekend, according to officials.

They are related to alcohol and stupid people.
3 drunk drivers?? That’s a joke. Let everyone know they can come to tahoe, act like a heathen and drive home drunk. It sounds like paradise. A drunk drivers utopia.

Good job SLTPD and EDSO as well as the Forest Service. Arrest these ghetto city idiots for anything and everything you can. They are products of a sewer and deserve to be treated as such. THEY don’t spend money here. They just come with their ghetto mentality and ruin everything in their path. I can only hope they crash and burn on their way home after ruining OUR town
I’m sure that SLTPD appreciates your appreciation since they so rarely receive compliments hereon, and, what no one seems to realize, their staffing has been reduced both in coverage and, unfortunately and to, I hope, only a partial degree, in competence.
It’s hard to attract quality officers to a career at South Lake Tahoe, even accepting that “The Lake” provides its own incentive, and I’ve been told that the PD recently saw a great example of that effect when they tested a boatload of candidates, and found not a single acceptable recruit.
Still, I wonder at how you’d define “ghetto city idiots?” Were you, perhaps, one of those rejected candidates?

Just a word of advice: if you are planning to interview for a law enforcement job somewhere I’d skip the phrase “ghetto city idiots.” For some reason, law enforcement is pretty sensitive to casual bigotry; perhaps to the surprise of some, but in the long run a good idea.
