Man drowns swimming at Lake Tahoe
A 42-year-old man from Southern California drowned today in Incline Village.
The name of the man from Carson has not been released pending notification of family.
He was about 50 yards from shore when he started struggling to stay afloat, Washoe County sheriff’s Sgt. John Hamilton said.
“Someone from the beach swam out and got him off the bottom,” Hamilton told Lake Tahoe News
He was put on a raft and brought to shore. An off-duty nurse started CPR, but the man died at the beach July 28 just before 5pm.
Hamilton estimates the depth of Lake Tahoe at this area near Diver’s Cove is 10- to 15-feet deep.

Carson or So Cal? Either way it is a tragedy and my thoughts and well wishes go out to his family.
I am sure there are talking about Carson, CA.
My nephew was on the beach this afternoon and witnessed the resuscitation attempts. Shortly after he told me about it, and with the grieving family on my mind, I was walking along a path at Tahoe Tavern on the West Shore when I spotted an amazing, beautiful rainbow across the lake, seeming to rise right from the area of Sand Harbor and forming a reflection on the water. The crazy part is that it hadn’t been raining this afternoon. Though I’m not a religious person, it was hard not to consider whether there is a deeper meaning. Anyhow, I was able to get a picture of the rainbow, and I would love to share it with the man’s widow and children. If someone from the newspaper could contact me with an email address, or information for the funeral home that is serving the family, it would be greatly appreciated. I’m hoping the photo can give them some small measure of comfort.
I’m his niece, Kristin if you can contact me at rkalanit@yahoo.com that would be great. Thank you
Kristin very thoughtful gesture. Hopefully the family will treasure your gift and bring them peace.
Kalanit, so very sorry for you and your family’s loss.

I would be grateful to see this photo also. I would like to show it to my young sons and nephew that witnessed the event. It seems that it could be uplifting. Thank you for sharing it.

My family was on the beach yesterday as well. We have had the family on our minds all day today and yesterday evening. I would like them to know that many people have them in their thoughts right now. All of us on the beach felt deeply saddened for the family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
It was tragic.. My heart goes out to you, Kalanit and your entire family. May he rest in peace and may God comfort your family.

Hello Jaime. I’m not an officer, I was on the beach with my wife and kids when this happened. I ran over to meet him at the shore and initiated CPR. I continued until some help arrived.
Sorry for your loss, God bless.
Hi i just wanted to say my condolences go out to the family and i can only imagine the grief. My brother in law, Chase 18 years old, is the one, along with another gentleman, who swam out and searched for the man wen my mother in law saw him struggling and dip under water. She started yelling that the man needed help but no one took action except my brother and cousin. Chase swam down and with the help of the other gentleman, pulled the man up onto the raft and brought him to shore. They tried everything to revive him and sadly could not. Everyone was very effected by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, may he rest in paradise.
I’m so sad I’m his next door neighbor and today is his viewing and now his resting I peace
Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. I am Victor’s cousin.
Just wanted to let everyone know that the family is hanging in there.
The kids are trying to understand why this happened and are beginning to accept it. The wife is being strong for her children.
I am sure the harder days are ahead, please continue to pray for them.
Once again, thank you.
Chase and JT, thanks for taking action. My husband was the other guy who helped pull Victor out, and also did the rescue breaths with JT. I know we all wish the outcome had been different. However, I worked for the Red Cross for a number of years, and I know that they followed all the protocols. It was a heroic effort.
I think of victor and his family often. I hope the service was of some solace. I will keep them in my thoughts, and hope for healing. May your family find peace.
