Milfoil found at mouth of Upper Truckee River

Eurasian watermilfoil has been found in the Upper Truckee River near its outlet to Lake Tahoe.

The 1- to 2-foot wide by 50 yard infestation was discovered by an Eyes on the Lake volunteer. Eyes on the Lake is a collaborative effort of the Lake Tahoe Invasive Species Program.

According to the League to Save Lake Tahoe, “The infestation originates from a pipe that drains from the entrance road to the Tahoe Keys Marina. A piece of milfoil may have been rinsed from a boat and washed down the pipe or inadvertently introduced from a kayaker or rafter floating the river, where it lodged in the river bank and began to grow. Nutrient-rich stormwater running off the roads likely fed the invasive weed allowing it to flourish and spread more quickly.”

Volunteers organized by the League plan to remove the infestation this month.

    Sound thee alarm!!!!!
I think the Marina owners are an invasive species. Why don’t you get rid of THEM??? That place is quickly turning into a toilet because of them.

We had our boat batteries charged by them, leaving the boat in their hands and when we returned, suddenly our stereo system was broken. CHAD said we could make an appointment and have it looked at for $70/hr or something stupid like that. These fools are a crooked as the Snake River!!

What about the fallen trees that are across the Upper Truckee , they pose a problem to fish and recreation. Is there any erosion project set to address this?

Cosa. Perhaps Lass is thinking about rafting the Upper Truckee (recreation) and wants the fallen trees in the river removed?

LASS , Humans are so friggin selfish. Wha, wha, wha. I want it ALL to be about me.
trees falling across the creek or river can create fish habitat, slow water to create an eddie that creates habitat for water fowl, once again, its not about whats best for humans.

I do think it would be wise to keep the millfoil out of the river. Once its there, it will be harder to deal with. The keys cesspool is spreading and so grosse.
