Snow in the forecast for Lake Tahoe
Bundle up because the temps are going to drop and white stuff is going to fall.
Expect a dusting of snow at lake level on Saturday. Above 8,000 feet there could be 4 to 6 inches.
The National Weather Service in Reno told Lake Tahoe News the storm that is passing through could impact travel on Sierra passes. For road conditions, click on the state icons on the home page of Lake Tahoe News.
By Sunday the storm is expected to have moved through the region. The highs for this weekend are forecast for the mid to low 50s, with the temp climbing to 69 degrees by Tuesday.

Snow level is at about 8000 ft., so probably not much if anything at lake level. But it is a good heads up.
Is your firewood stacked and covered and the wood stove clean of ashes? How’s the pantry look?
Got enough canned food to get you thru a heavy winter when the roads are closed and the store shelves are emptied? Car or truck running well with good snow tires? Don’t forget your pets, buy up extra food for them as well.
I’m not one to make weather predictions , but it would be good to be prepared for a heavy winter just in case that’s what’s thrown our way just like it was in 1952!
Pray for snow, we need it! , OLS
Thanks OLS for the reminder. Pretty well stocked here already, but ya can’t have too much. Also check generators to make sure they are full and working well.
YEAH bring it on. :)
ACtually, 1952 wasn’t a monster heavy Winter, but the snowfall around January 12th WAS a huge dump.
I did a bit of comparo’s, when I was on the recent panel presentation at the Historic Society at Camp Rich.
All the experts are forecasting continued drought. You should add sand bags new shovels to your list OLS.
8000 is the new 6000. Not to anticipate much at Lake level moving forward.
Hello, all you prognosticators:
At the beginning of 1969, there was just shy of 50′ (599 inches) at Lake-level, which is the forgotten one (1952 ? 1982 ?). . . that was early January, and both the American Legion & Meeks collapsed in late February because of that. . . I was here then, but AL has the Tahoe Daily Tribune from March 1st in glass on the wall reporting on that. . .
Meeks recovered, but AL is still less than half the building it was then. . .
So, most have not yet come close to experiencing a Winter like that. . .and maybe never will. . .
In early 1969, there was a 50′ snow-pack (599 inches) at Lake-level. . .later, in late February, both American Legion Hall and Meeks across-the-street collapsed due to that. . .
Meeks recovered, but AL was never again the building it was before that winter. . .so most have never come close to experiencing a winter like that. . . and maybe never will. . .
Everyone likes to remember the GIANT winters. I made it through the 80’s and early 90’s with a two wheel drive Pontiac Sunbird. I live and work at lake level, if I had friends that lived up hill I waited a couple of days to see them. All the stores and all but four restaurants/bars are on the flat.
Got my first snow blower three years ago hasn’t snowed much since. If you just calm down and have breakfast most of the snow will be off the roadways. In the 80’s it was rare to own a four wheel drive. People have turned into a bunch of wimps.
