LTCC cracking down on tobacco use

Lake Tahoe Community College board of trustees approved a policy that prohibits smoking within buildings or facilities owned or leased by the district, and has designated marked outside areas on campus for smoking.

All other smoking and tobacco use in and on the LTCC campus is prohibited except in personal vehicles.

Individuals who refuse to comply with the college’s smoking policy will be disciplined. For the purposes of this policy, “smoking” means all uses of tobacco, including cigar smoking, cigarette smoking, pipe smoking, e-cigarettes, and chewing tobacco. The sale of tobacco products is also prohibited on college property.

The policy applies to all LTCC employees, students, vendors, visitors, and other people who use the college’s vehicles and facilities.

How noble. What about the pot, heroin, meth and extacy used during snow globe?

Sunriser, why in the world would you condemn them for making this policy? As they don’t have a campus police , it would be up to the law enforcement agencies to handle the illegal activities.

Im glad there is another place that is prohibiting stinky cigarettes. I hate them and tend to stay away from areas where people are smoking. They are one of the most disgusting habits out there. And smokers seem to think cigarette butts arent garbage. Go figure…..

Who will enforce the anti tobacco rule? Do you think they didn’t know about drug use at snow globe?

This sounds like PC theatrics. What harm does it do to have someone smoke a cigarette at the far end of the parking lot?

I hate smoking. And I’m totally in support of rules that restrict smoking to areas where other folks don’t have to put up with all the stinks and possible health issues.

But they’re going to be “disciplined?” The college certainly has the right to kick anyone smoking in a restricted area off campus. But when they talk about “discipline,” they sound like a bunch of high school administrators, as usual, exercising their “badge heavy” authority over their campus and their juvenile charges.

This is college, folks. Don’t imagine yourselves as disciplinarians. You’re only school officials, with some authority over your publicly owned campus. Did Cal in the sixties teach no one anything?

The fact that people still choose to smoke cigarettes with all the knowledge of the health issuess that are sure to arrise, well that, the ill health, is the discipline awarded. No other discipline needed…

About time. The front entrance of the school is like a smoke gauntlet. It’s terrible.

This has nothing to do with Snow Globe. Sounds like someone just wants to complain.

Unless this was just approved this week, as of Monday the circular stone wall at the approach to college entrance was still functioning as a smoking lounge. It’s hard to reconcile that so many people with pretensions to being smart – as in college students- need extra encouragement to not smoke.

@ljames-there is a difference between ‘being smart’ and being educated.
