• Caltrans has an extension to work on Highway 89 in Tahoma past the Oct. 15 grading deadline. Work on Highway 28 in Kings Beach is also continuing.

• If you need to ski before the Tahoe resorts open, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area (aka A-Basin) in Colorado opened Oct. 17.
