Updated 4:45pm:

A South Lake Tahoe woman is fighting for her life at an area hospital after being stabbed Wednesday night.

The man accused of the stabbing – her husband – fled, but was arrested Thursday afternoon. Thomas Payne, 36, of South Lake Tahoe faces attempted murder charges.

Officers are not releasing the name of the 35-year-old victim.

“We don’t know how the altercation occurred or what happened,” Lt. David Stevenson told Lake Tahoe News.

The woman was stabbed in the upper chest and neck area. Details about the object used in the crime or even if it was located at the residence have not been released. The call came in at 8:47pm Oct. 15 on Lukins Way. The victim was able to go to a neighbor’s to seek aid.

The suspect left as officers arrived. On Thursday afternoon he returned to their residence where he was arrested by South Lake Tahoe police officers.

“The victim was transported to the hospital and went into emergency surgery to save her life.  Prior to surgery the victim identified her assailant as Thomas Payne and divulged additional details of domestic violence,” officers said in a press release.

Child Protective Services was called to take the couple’s 6-month-old child.

Another fine and non informative article. Some lady is in some hospital from some stab wound, by an unknown object, for unknown reasons, by an unnamed husband. Brilliant!

Agreed. We know that we have to be on the lookout for a 30-something male. May or may not be wearing a wedding ring.

There aren’t too many 30- something males in South Lake Tahoe……

It’s nice to see the media showing concern for a victim. The public does not have a need to know the names and all personal information of crime victims.
The description of the suspect hasn’t been released so LTN couldn’t publish that to give all you detective want to be’s the data to start driving around town looking for him.

it’s not clear from this article who exactly was the victim, since domestic violence is rarely unilateral. was he injured?

Usually 99% of the time, the person trying to murder the other with a deadly object or knife is the guilty party. The details weren’t released, it appears, so that police could be waiting for the attempted murderer to return and stay in cover until that happened without people like friends or family going to the house.

Do they have a abused Women shelter in Lake Tahoe ? It can happen any time ,and any where, If not they need one, If so,Good I see a women on the corner at the Y all the time with a dog ,and has a sign ,stating for Abused women ,any one have a clue about this lady with her dog?

  8. SANDI says - Posted: October 16, 2014

That lady has mental illness issues the shelter won’t let her back. She must not have followed the rules.

It clearly says that he was her husband, Thomas Payne and that he was arrested after fleeing for stabbing her. Typically when one is stabbed, it’s with a knife. The real question is, why is any of this important?! He is in custody, she and surgery–her name is no one’s business, since she’s the victim. Some of these comments are so inane!! Read the article!
And yes, Kathy, SLT has a shelter for abused women–it’s called “live Violence Free” (finally, a reasonable question.)
I hope that this woman recovers fully and testifies against this creep and he goes away for a long time…

Not sure about the lady with the dog, but Live Violence Free is a great local organization that offers services to domestic violence and abuse victims.

    Aspen,

If you don’t like it stop reading it. A better way to preface the article would have been for the reporter to say “very few details are available bit here is what we do know.”
Many of the missing facts we the readers have already put together in our minds whether they are right or wrong.

  12. Hmmm... says - Posted: October 17, 2014

@Rhino-agreed. If a friend of mine were heading for violence towards his/her SO I would advise him/her to get help. If they sliced and diced I would want to know…and you’re damn right-I would turn them in.

Rhino: This is the updated version. I commented on the lack of any info, from the original version. LTN decided to throw them all together.
