El Dorado County planning commissioners on Dec. 11 will discuss the possibility of adding a cell phone tower to the South Shore.

New Cingular Wireless/AT&T is the applicant for the special use permit.

The company wants to put a tower on the south side of Skyline Drive about one mile northeast of the intersection of Highway 50 and Pioneer Trail. The proposal is for a 113-foot monopine tower with nine panel antennas, equipment shelter, related ground equipment, HVAC units, sound barrier walls, and solid wood fence.

The meeting starts at 8:30am in Placerville.

Comments may be sent to El Dorado Planning Services, 2850 Fairlane Court, Placerville, CA 95667.

They can put one in my backyard if it would bring cell service to the Y area.

Everyone wants good cellphone service which means more cellphone sites. Tahoe needs more of them. Just try to make a call on the 4th of July or Christmas and you get an idea of what I mean.

I would rather have one on Spooner Summit to get coverage from Cave Rock to the back of Spooner. I hope they make it look like a pine tree.

One of the salespersons at the Verizon store told me they would love to put up another tower which would cover Meyers but they have not yet received permission from TRPA. What’s the holdup?? Coverage in Meyers sucks.

Mama Bear, they clearly are not greasing the correct palms. In sufficient quantities.
