image_pdfimage_print

The third annual Holiday Parade will be Dec. 13 beginning at 3pm in South Lake Tahoe.

The parade will start at the corner of Ski Run Boulevard and Pioneer Trail and proceed down the run to Highway 50 where it will turn west toward the Y. The parade will end in the back of the parking lot at T.J. Maxx.

Cookies provided by Raley’s and Grocery Outlet, and hot cocoa provided by Lake Tahoe Pizza will be served.

Santa will be on hand for the children.

Christmas Cheer will be on site to collect new toys, cash donations, and non-perishable food items. There will also be a donation box in the foyer at T.J. Maxx from Nov. 25-Dec. 1 for those who cannot attend but wish to donate.

The parade is produced with no profit by Golden Bear Events for Christmas Cheer.

For more information or to enter the parade, call JoAnn at 530.544.7412 or go online. School entries, Scout troops, and public safety related entities are free, but must register for the parade.

Sounds like lots of fun, and for a great cause – Christmas Cheer!

Yes it is a great cause, Irish, and with more people losing their jobs, they need more help than ever. Be sure to stand on the side of the road that is closest to the shoulder for the best view, or come to the TJ Maxx parking lot.

Holiday Parade? Why isn’t it a CHRISTMAS Parade? Because that’s what we’re celebrating. Or is Christmas Cheer going to have to change its name to Holiday Cheer to abide by the dictates of political correctness? I mean, if you’re serious, I’d like to see all the government employees show up for work on Thursday, Dec 25 if we are NOT actually celebrating Christmas.

The relevance of the Cult of Angry Sky Man v2 in this secular country and across the world is decreasing. That what I celebrate 3 days after the Winter Solstice.
In non secular countries dominated by Cult of Angry Sky Man v3, you wouldn’t even be allowed to celebrate. With so many different choices of cults in the world, a fair society is secular and no single cult is given primacy. Corporations may endorse the cult of their choice, and donate sugar confections. And they can force members of the cult to work. Governments can not force cult members to work on that day, nor give out sugar confections to a specific cult.
It is complicated and nuanced and we don’t expect everyone to understand it, but the system is fair.

I see that the well known pagan character Santa Claus will be there. But I don’t object and I’ve already donated a couple weeks ago.
Why can’t there be a sharing of love, peace and goodwill to All our brothers and sisters as a communal holiday? Why do some people demand we believe in their personal invisible cloud being beliefs?
I personally am increasingly disturbed by what has become the real “reason for the season”, gross commerciali$$$$m.

Dogula, to answer your question: The history of this parade is that it is the first event that Golden Bear Events produced, and it was done to benefit the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, aka the “little Chamber.” Wanting to include all faiths that celebrate holidays at this time of year, it was called the Holiday Parade. We had students from St. Teresa’s singing Christmas Carols and we had another church in the parade with a Nativity scene, but there were also people just celebrating the holidays.
The second year I got elected and sworn into office too close to the parade to have time to get my letter from the Fair Political Practices Commission stating there is no conflict for me to produce the parade.
Because of my close affiliation with the small chamber and because I wanted to remove all politics and all vestiges of political connection or favor, I thought it best to choose a charity to benefit.
That charity is Christmas Cheer All Year, which provides food, clothing, and gifts (at Christmas time)to the people in our community in need of a little help. The banner is expensive to make. When that banner wears out, if Christmas Cheer is still interested in being the recipient of the income from the parade, I will ask the board if they wish to change the name of the parade to the Christmas Cheer Parade.
In any case, it is a good event that raises several hundred dollars and receives lots of toys and food for our community. I hope you get a chance to watch this year.

but OLS, don’t you think throwing macaroni would attract bears. LOL OMG(just so I don’t get jumped on by the angry atheist guy, you may read it as Oh My Goodness or Oh My God depending upon your own higher being on non being) Why cant we just making this just a time of happiness instead of people getting mad that other peoples happiness. I realize that many here are just angry and refuse to be happy, but give the angriness a break you may like it. If you cant say Merry Christmas, just say enjoy the season which could also mean enjoy the winter if you like. Please Just be HAPPY during this time and spread some Joy!!!!!

Dogula, it IS a Christmas parade. And a Hanukkah parade. And a Saturnalia parade. And a Kwanzaa parade. And a Yule parade. And a Festivus parade. And a Flying Spaghetti Monster parade. and a Pray for Snow parade. And a…Oh hell it’s a WINTER HOLIDAY PARADE, for God’s sake! Kinda sorta with the idea of including people. I get it that your version of religion is designed to exclude as many as possible…you bring this non-issue up every year the first chance you get. You could filling your heart and mind wiith real Christmas spirit…like watching ‘A Christmas Carol’, or ‘How the Republicans Stole the Middle Class’ or you could be burning some homeless people at the stake, you know, modern Christian pastimes. Instead you are starting chit
Why are you starting chit? Oh yeah, because you are petty and a hypocrite.

  12. Old Long Skiis says - Posted: November 23, 2014

Hmmm…, Thanks for reminding me of Festivus! Last Christmas I took an old ski pole and taped a cardboard sign on it saying,
” Happy Festivus for the Rest of US” and stuck it in the front yard. The neighbors and the dog walkers did’nt know what to think! I enjoyed it to be sure! The puzzeld looks were great A few people had seen that”Seinfeld” episode and got it. Waving to me and laughing! I just found it in the closet, so it will be goin’ up again this year. OLS

oh sorry, but it is your words that show your anger, you are very angry about the christian religion and on more than one instance have question the intelligence of any one who believes in any sort of higher being. I would love to see at least a few of your post that are up lifting or informative(without putting anyone down would be nice) Most of them are negiative or sarcatic. heres wishing you a joyious season.
